Distorting the Gaze

As part of YCAM’s ongoing “Walled Garden” project, SUNAKI developed the key visual for Lauren Lee McCarthy & Kyle McDonald: Unlearning Language. While “Walled Garden” investigates the relationship between closed systems and open dialogue through technology, “Unlearning Language” focuses on the possibilities and limits of language-based communication, presenting works that probe how technology mediates dialogue.

YCAM「アンラーニング・ランゲージ」のためのキービジュアル

まなざしを歪める

YCAMが継続的に行っている鎖国 [Walled Garden] プロジェクトの一環で開催された「ローレン・リー・マッカーシー カイル・マクドナルド アンラーニング・ランゲージ」展のためのキーヴィジュアル。鎖国 [Walled Garden] プロジェクトは、テクノロジーを通じて閉じられたシステムとオープンな対話の可能性を探求することを目的とし、「アンラーニング・ランゲージ」は、言語を通じたコミュニケーションの可能性と限界に焦点を当て、テクノロジーと対話の関係性を探る作品群で構成されている。

The key visual involved the use of a 3D scan model of a human figure, which was transformed through a custom programming code (Rhino/Python) to visually express the concept of "unlearning." By applying multiple different transformation algorithms and intentionally introducing distortions, the project aims to "unlearn" existing forms and perceptions, thereby exploring new possibilities of perception.

キーヴィジュアルでは、人間の3Dスキャンモデルを用いて、その形状を変形させるプログラミングコード（Rhino/Python）を作成し、「アンラーニング（Unlearning）」の概念を視覚的に表現することを目指した。複数の異なる変形アルゴリズムを組み合わせ、意図的なゆがみを与えることで、既存の形態や認識を「アンラーニング」し、新たな知覚の可能性を探る試みとなっている。
