Furniture for Shodoshima House
Environmental surface replication
A collaborative project with "Monoya," a studio in Kyoto that handles various items such as antiques and collected objects of value, and uses these collected objects as seeds for new ideas to carry out spatial composition and the design of fixtures and furniture products.
For the renovation project "Shodoshima House," planned and designed by SUNAKI, we designed and produced furniture. Using lighting, fusuma paintings, and pillars that existed before the renovation, we applied physical effects such as "replication," "stretching," "painting over," and "distortion" to transform the meaning and function of objects.
[Gray Lighting]
By painting over the transparent parts of several lights placed in the atrium space of the main house with gray, we partially eliminate the function of the lighting, showcasing the interesting shapes of the lights themselves, creating a state where they can also serve as furniture or ornaments.
[Mountain Stool]
A stool made by cutting out the mountain from the fusuma painting that existed in the detached house, printing it on a wooden panel. In addition to being used as a stool, it can also be used like a stage prop.
[Bent Pillar Bench]
A bench made by bending pillar material. Normally, the pillars stand vertically, but by laying them horizontally and bending them, we create slanted parts.
